New Rolls-Royce Ghost Revealed

Ultimate in luxury motoring brought right up to date

Any unveiling of a new car is a big deal in the motor industry, but it's a particularly big deal when the new car is a Rolls-Royce. New "Rollers" certainly don’t come along every day, so it was exciting news when the legendary luxury automaker unveiled details of the new Rolls-Royce Ghost.

There's no doubt that Rolls-Royce faces stiffer competition at the top end of the luxury car market than ever these days, but no matter how good or technologically-advanced the latest Mercedes, BMW or Bentley might be, the Rolls-Royce name still has something that sets it apart as the very epitome of luxury motoring.

Even so, even a motoring institution has to deliver the goods to keep justifying those premium prices, and it sounds as though the new Ghost does exactly that as the manufacturer has stated that this will be the most technologically advanced car the company has ever produced.

The new Ghost is built on rigid aluminium Rolls-Royce spaceframe architecture with all-wheel drive and all-wheel steering for unprecedented poise and surefootedness. It also features a world-first Planar suspension system designed to significantly increase the agility and effortlessness of this substantial vehicle.

Powering the car will be a 6.75-litre twin-turbo V-12 engine putting out delivering 563bhp (571PS) and 850nm, but talk of top speeds and 0 to 60 times are a little crass for such a distinguished marque of course.

Comfort, quality, luxury and sheer opulence are what Rolls-Royces are renowned for, and it sounds as though the new Ghost more than lives up to that longstanding global reputation for excellence.

The outer body of the new Ghost is 100% aluminium and is rendered as a single clean, expansive piece. The body flows seamlessly from the A-pillar, over the roof and backwards to the rear of the car, which is reminiscent of the one-piece coachbuilt Silver Dawn and Silver Cloud models.

A total absence of any shut lines allows owners to run their eye from the front to the rear of the car uninterrupted by unsightly body seams, and this is achieved by four craftsmen hand welding the body together simultaneously to ensure a perfectly continuous seam. Also, 100% aluminium, laser-welded doors have been used, and for effortless entry and exiting of the Ghost, these doors now electrically open as well as close.

Rolls-Royce Motor Cars CEO, Torsten Müller-Ötvös, says of the new model, "The new Rolls-Royce Ghost is the most technologically advanced Rolls-Royce yet. It distils the pillars of our brand into a beautiful, minimalist, yet highly complex product that is perfectly in harmony with our Ghost clients’ needs and perfectly in tune with the times."
